HOW DOES BOWEN WORK ?
Everyone feels better with Bowen!
Rather than focusing on a single complaint, the Bowen Technique addresses the entire body, by restoring balance via the autonomic nervous system (ANS).
The ANS, composed of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, controls over 80% of bodily functions and is very susceptible to external influences. Most people today live in a constant state of high stress and sympathetic ANS over-stimulation (fight, flight or freeze mode), which creates many blockages, pain and diseases.
The Bowen Technique enables the ANS shift from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance (rest, relax and repair mode). Only when this shift starts to take place, the body can begin the healing and the “resetting” process of the system.
The Bowtech moves and procedures reset the body to heal Itself with very profound, lasting, and often fast results with minimal intervention from the practitioner, by activating, through the nervous and endocrine systems among others, the following mechanisms: stretch reflex, joint proprioceptors, fascia, segmental viscerosomatic spinal reflexes, harmonic vibration or resonance model, lymphatics, detoxification.
By working on the Fascia System the Bowen helps the body to release the memories that are kept in the cells/tissues, creating a noticeable and lasting change in the tissues and therefore improving the state of health.
A Bowen treatment consists of gentle moves performed with the fingers or thumbs, on very specific locations on the body directly on the skin or even on top of thin cloths. There are important breaks of a few minutes between the sets of moves, needed for the body to process the messages sent through the nervous system. Each complete Bowen session usually takes between 1h and 1h30m.
Because of the subtle nature of Bowen Technique, and the body’s continuing response to it over several days after the session has finished, other forms of manipulative therapy are discouraged for up to five days after a session, as they may interfere with the efficacy of the work.
